Getting back my Mojo just before Christmas

Dear Patriots,
I could start to feel the life force again as the family headed up the Yankee Fork back home for Christmas. It's such a beautiful place we live in here in Custer County and throughout most of America. I got to thinking of the good things in life, bundled up with the family bouncing up the road heading for the mountain. I thought of so many good people who never get a shout out, so many who do so much that we never hear of and rarely catch on the nightly news. But this year as in the past we stand with many heroes; many across this great land who put there lives on the line everyday here and abroad. I look forward and rejoice in the land we love because of the people we are. There are many things good with America and Americans.
Let me share a story of some recent heroes. You probably heard of the would-be attacker who took a gun to a Florida school board meeting the other day. I don't know much more than any of you about the details, but I do know that many that day rose to the highest calling. Did you see the woman who beat the attacker over the head with her purse to try to diffuse the situation well knowing the perpetrator had a gun. Didn't she know not to bring a hand bag to a gun fight! No, she couldn't just watch in horror as the scene played out. She stood up and gave the crazy man a whack. It didn't do much good, the man shrugged her off and pushed her to the floor but think of the risk and possible consequence. Was she just nuts too? I don't think so.
The school Superintendant pleaded with the attacker to let all the others go. He said "Let them go, your quarrel is with me". Was he so immortal that his flesh could stop a bullet? I don't think so. Some how, the Superintendant faced the man looking straight down his gun barrel. He did not budge, he would not let that irrational thug get the best of him. Did it do much good? No. The attacker fired directly at him. The Superintendant slumped not knowing he wasn't hit and fell behind the desk amazingly unscathed. The villain continued to fire point blank at the other members of the board. Not one hit. Then a crack from a security guards pistol fell the mad man. Again, the guard rose to the occasion, to save with deadly force, the others who would certainly have perished. In just one room three heroes, three everyday people, three who had know idea that they would rise to the highest calling that day; to put someone else's life and safety above their own.
It's an inspirational story one well suited for the Christmas season. I have great hope because of these unknown Americans, I know I walk among many. You and I see them everyday. Maybe it's the boy who sacks your groceries, maybe it's the girl who cuts your hair. You just never know who, but I do know they walk among us. America is good because we are good people. We are good people because we have the other half of Liberty too, Responsibility. Just think how many good people are saved from bad people simply by someone with the Liberty and Responsibility to carry a gun. You don't get that part of the story over the TV, but in this case, Liberty, Responsibility and a willingness to give your all for someone unknown to you saved the day.
When I think of good, I think of you folks who have made the effort to help "form a more perfect union". You who got out of the comfort zone to stand up and speak your mind. Those of you who take the time to make our community a better place to live. Those of you who give selfishlessly to see your children have a better tomorrow. Your heroes everyday and fine examples of what it is to be American.
Merry Christmas,
Darr Moon
