On Friday May 7th the people of Pocatello will have a rare opportunity to see eyewitness photos, and hear firsthand descriptions, of the fall of The Berlin Wall from a scientist born and raised in Berlin who took the photos and experienced that world- changing event. Christian Segebade lived in Berlin during the time the Berlin Wall was being built, during its oppressive years of dividing the city, and to witness the day in November, 1989 when the wall’s gates were opened and the tyranny which kept the people of East Germany in captivity became dust in the wind, much like the dust flying as the Berlin Wall was being dismantled. Come experience this extraordinary opportunity to watch history as it was being made.
Christian Segebade is a world-class scientist who worked for more than thirty years in the Federal Institute of Material Research in Berlin, and who now visits Pocatello periodically as a guest scientist with the IAC at ISU. He has agreed to share his personal photos and recollections with Pocatello on Friday evening, May 7th at 7:00 p.m. at Gate City Baptist Church, 500 W. Maple Street (located at the corner of Maple and McKinley, telephone: 232-8693).
This presentation is not religious, nor political, but rather historical. The public is encouraged to attend. Dress is casual, and there is no admission fee. Come see what freedom from communism meant to the people who lived under it for decades.
